The police are investigating an incident in which a deaf man was hit by a car on Good Friday (April 9, 2004) and left at the side of the road to die.

Reports say 40-year-old Oriel Lyne of Sea View Farm was walking along the Potters main road at about 6:30 am when he was struck by a Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly kept going, but an eyewitness chased the car and recorded the license plate number.

While Lyne was trying to get up, another eye witness said he was nearly hit by another passing car.

He however managed to walk to the hospital to seek treatment.

The deaf man’s sister, Edith Lyne said she got a call about the incident and went to the hospital, where she found her brother with cuts to his head that required stitches.

"He is not an animal," she said of her brother. "Should somebody knock you down and leave you there, it must be they are leaving you to die."

She said to her knowledge, the police have yet to arrest anyone, although they were able to give her the car’s license plate number.
