, Mr. Leslie A. Emanuel
has been appointed as the Regional Development Officer (RDO) of the
Disabled Peoples' International North America/Caribbean Region (DPI NACR)
by its Executive. He was
selected from a field of nine (9) applicants.
The responsibilities of the RDO include:-

To
organize, with the Chairperson, representation of DPI NACR at all
regional and international NGO activities and support those selected
for that representation;
-
Establishing
regular communication with national assemblies in the region, ensuring
that publications and position papers of DPI are distributed, and
input and comments are fostered from the assemblies;
-
Collaborating
with the United Nations Agencies and other International NGOs as well
as the World DPI Office, seeking information on a broad range of
disability issues and sharing the information with national
assemblies;

Reporting
on activities of activities in the region to DPI World Office;
-
Publishing
regular information to share the experiences, skills, success, and
projects of the national assemblies and regional undertakings;
-
Encouraging
the development of new national assemblies and assist with the
application and approval process to the DPI World Council;
-
Ensuring
the notification and collection of annual membership dues from
national assemblies;
-
Coordinating
and assisting regional, sub-regional, and national projects. Ensuring
that funds are raised, managed, and reported in a timely manner.
Liaison with funders and reporting on a regular basis to the Regional
Executive and DPI World Office;

Building
capacity of the region through seminars, workshops, and meetings at
the regional and sub-regional levels. In collaboration with the
Regional Council developing and implementing the regional plan and
recommending revisions to same;

Providing
administrative support to the Regional Council by ensuring all
requirements for meetings, elections, and reporting as outlined in the
DPI constitution, by-laws, and policies are carried out;
Mr.
Emanuel brings to the role a wealth of knowledge and experience in the
disability movement regionally and internationally, and is a founder of
the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Persons with Disabilities, an
Organization he led for eight (8) years and is now its Public Relations
Officer.
